Finding Free Full Version Software

Published by zachary47 at 8:16 pm under Guides Edit This

A lot of software claims to be “free” but expires after a “trial period” or has severely restricted features until the full version is purchased. Here are some tips on finding genuinely free full version software…

1. Use advanced search options on download sites; at tucows.com, select “Freeware” under “Filter by”, or click “Free” under “License Type” on download.com. Both options appear on the software result pages.

2. Thoroughly read the description, finding phrases like “free version”, “shareware” or “registration”. Review any user comments on the software to see if other users have been satisfied with the program.

3. Free download sites don’t always categorize programs correctly. Before downloading a program, remember to check the publisher’s web site and see if it offers to sell a full version of the application in question.

I get really nervous about downloading freeware because I’m scared about the whole virus thing. I like your tip about running the antivirus right after installing.
